Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented a White Paper on the Indian Economy in the Lok Sabha, emphasizing the economic challenges faced by the country when the BJP-led government took office in 2014. The document reveals that the economy was in a fragile state, plagued by financial indiscipline, economic mismanagement, and widespread corruption.

During the budget session, FM Nirmala Sitharaman tabled a comprehensive White Paper on the Indian Economy in the Lok Sabha, shedding light on the state of the economy when the BJP government assumed power in 2014. The White Paper acknowledges the challenging situation, with the economy in a fragile state, public finances in disarray, and pervasive corruption. Sitharaman stated that the government refrained from releasing a White Paper at the time to avoid a negative narrative that could undermine confidence, opting instead to focus on instilling hope and attracting investments.

The document emphasizes the government's commitment to 'nation-first,' highlighting that after overcoming the challenges inherited from the previous government, the country is now on a path of sustained high growth. Sitharaman asserted that the White Paper aims to compare the economic performances of the Congress-led UPA government's 10-year tenure with that of the BJP-led NDA government. This move comes as the government, in its budget presented on February 1, announced its intention to provide a detailed assessment of the two governments' economic track records.
